Ralph Peyton Katz, MD is a graduate of Tulane University School of Medicine where he received an M.S. in Anatomy in 1987, and a M.D. in 1990. He spent a year as a surgical intern at the Tulane division of Charity Hospital. After he completed his residency at the University of Iowa, he did a Trauma/Spine Fellowship. Dr. Katz joined Westside Orthopaedic Clinic in 1996 and continues his practice here currently.
Dr. Katz specializes in all spinal disorders. He has extensive experience in minimally invasive surgical techniques. He performs small incision microdiscectomies on an outpatient basis. Additionally, he performs cervical and lumbar spinal fusions, utilizing small incisions with minimally invasive systems. Dr. Katz is one of a few local surgeons who also perform both cervical and lumbar disc replacements.
Dr. Katz also completed a Fellowship in Trauma with an emphasis on Spine. He joined Westside Orthopaedic Clinic in 1996 and practices at West Jefferson Medical Center.
He is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and a member of the North American Spine Society and the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. Dr. Katz is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine. A native of New Orleans, Dr. Katz currently lives in the city with his wife and children.
